Pop, fries, chips. They have become a part of our culture. A sad one! It is time for a reality check.

Despite pretty packaging and smart marketing, they are merely receptacles for sugar and fat. Here is what you are REALLY consuming. Super-sizing does not help!

POP teaspoons sugar
12 oz, 1 ½ cups, 1 can 7.5
16 oz, 2 cups 10
28 oz, 3.5 cups 17.5
40 oz, 5 cups 25
FRIES teaspoons fat
on average, 5 fries = 1 tsp fat
small order 2-3
medium order 4
large order 5
CHIPS teaspoons fat
on average, 10 chips = 1 tsp fat
small package, 60g 4.5
medium package, 85g 6
NACHOS teaspoons fat
On average, 6 nachos = 1 tsp fat
Small package, 70g 3.5
Large bag, 300g 15

Next time the kids ask for a big gulp and a large bag of nachos, ask them if they would eat 25 teaspoons of sugar and 15 teaspoons of fat instead. Might get them thinking . . .
